Meet Dr. Dave Bass, PT, DPT
Founder & Lead Physical Therapist
Dave Bass, PT, DPT has spent over two decades caring for patients with orthopedic injuries, surgeries and pain. As a Master Clinician, he is constantly improving, striving to help his patients achieve the best possible outcome. He has many tools in his toolbox to address a variety of painful conditions, and over the last third of his career, he is focused exclusively on helping his patients avoid unnecessary surgeries and procedures.
Since stepping outside the traditional model of orthopedic care, that is driven by the surgeon (and therefore surgeries), Dr. Bass has come to the realization that many conditions that result frequently in surgery can be treated extremely successfully without the trauma, pain, and lengthy recovery that surgery mandates, with full healing and recovery.
As a profession, Physical Therapists are the experts in movement and how the body functions in real world scenarios. Surgeons do surgery on patients who are asleep and paralyzed. While sometimes the work that they do is exceptional and can be life changing for the better, sometimes what they do causes more harm than good. The human body is a miracle of structure and function. It is not a machine, and therefore, it can be more complex to identify the true causes of pain. Many times, an x-ray or MRI will identify arthritis, bulging discs, or a tear, which surgeons then use as ammunition to sell a surgery. No imaging study (MRI, X-ray, CT scan) lights up and says, “This is why you hurt.” (These tests only show things that we call anatomical abnormalities, i.e. this structure doesn't normally look like this in “healthy (non-symptomatic)” individuals. There are a lot of structures in the body that show “normal wear and tear” after decades of use and life, and frequently, these situations are completely normal, not the cause of pain and limitation, and they do not need to be surgically addressed.)
Many surgeries done with high frequency today, e.g. knee replacements, back surgeries, and rotator cuff repairs, are not indicated and are not properly diagnosed, and that leads to unnecessary traumatic surgeries, lengthy rehabilitation, time out of work, and tremendous cost.
Dr. Bass has a unique perspective on the true causes of pain, weakness, and inflexibility that lead to you having to give up the enjoyment of activities that you enjoy.
